So I was fortunate enough to be selected to become a Brighter Planet fellow for my work on smartermeter.
Brighter Planet is a company that is committed to developing carbon calculation models and exposing them as web services. They are interested in smartermeter as it can accurately provide the amount of electricity used by PG&E customers on an hourly basis.
Using that information, and a few other variables, any user can use Brighter Planet and smartermeter to determine roughly how much carbon they generate from their power usage.
Future plans for smartermeter includes adding the functionality described above and to develop a simple installer to allow smartermeter to run in a user friendly manner on Windows.
